OHV Ban Lifted – Fire Ban Remains

Effective April 17th, 2020 the Province has lifted the OHV ban, however the Fire ban in the Forest Protection Area remains in place.  This includes Alberta Parks and Protected Areas.

The M.D. of Smoky River has also amended its ban to be consistent with the restrictions being placed by the province, in all areas of the M.D. of Smoky River including the Towns, Villages and Hamlets:

  • No fire permits will be issued and any existing fire permits are immediately cancelled
  • Burning in burn barrels and fire pits is permitted, however spark arresting devises must be used

These restrictions are being put into place not only to prevent fires, but also because of Covid-19 concerns, to reduce the likelihood that firefighters need to respond.

This ban shall remain in effect until further notice.
